My name is Jim Thorpe. If the name rings a bell, that’s not a surprise. The original Jim Thorpe was an All-American sports legend who dominated the playing field in his day. Although he lived over fifty years ago, the Congress of the United States recently designated him America’s Athlete of the Century.

I have been designing and creating signs for over twenty years for small business and industry giants. My inspiration comes from an artistic tradition that values the enduring value of hand wrought work of a skilled artisan. All my signs are done by hand to create truly unique advertising for your enterprise.

Fashioning beautiful signs isn’t all that I do… my portfolio includes commissions for sculpture, decorative carving, furniture, scenic art and set design, industrial shows and many other special projects including Web Design and Copy.

I established Jim Thorpe Signs as a web business in 1999 and have since created a reputation for beautiful and durable carved signs highlighted with genuine gold. I produce dimensional signs in a variety of classic and original styles. My expertise makes me confident that we can produce an excellent result for your enterprise.

I grew up in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York and entered into the family tradition of wood crafting arts and sign making at an early age. After a decade of work and growth in my father’s business, The Ferguson Hollow Wood Works, I finished college.

I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in wood design in 1984 from the New York State University at New Paltz, NY. My career includes a history of creating sculpture and fine furniture in custom studios. I have also worked (although it felt more like play) making sets, sculpture, and props for opera houses, regional theaters, and Broadway productions. I employ the skills and knowledge from all these episodes in every sign I make.

Jim Thorpe Signs also includes the creative talents of Bill Clune, Bill Thorpe, Glenn Herbert and Laura Krauss.

My team also has access to a much larger community of artists, sign shops and graphics professionals. Our ongoing development of alliances in the sign industry helps us offer you the best service and product for your unique situation. I am a member in good standing in the United States Sign Council (USSC).
