Sign Makers.com have listings of Sign Shops worldwide, together with contact details and their specialities.

Sign Makers.Net also have listings worldwide, but is a different directory from the one above, located in the UK.

SignShop.com is a resource for the professional sign industry. If you want to discover more details about signs in general or carved signs in particular, this is a good place to start.

The American Sign Museum was founded in 1999 to inform and educate people about the history of the sign industry and its significant contributions to commerce and the American landscape. This is an excellent site to check out, both for its graphics and information.

The Society of Gilders is a nonprofit educational organization devoted to the arts and crafts of gilding. The goals of the Society are to foster and keep alive traditional gilding skills, techniques and knowledge and to unite all those dedicated to achieving and preserving the highest standards in the practice of gilding.

SYMBOLS.com is a vast reference library of graphic symbols. SYMBOLS.com contains more than 2,500 Western signs, arranged into groups according to their graphic characteristics. 1,600 articles of histories, uses, and meanings are thoroughly discussed. The signs range from ideograms carved in mammoth teeth by Cro-Magnon men, to hobo signs and subway graffiti. A worthy site and worth a visit.

Letterville – The Letterhead Web Site was formed about 25 years ago when a group of talented Denver craftsmen found each other and began having get togethers. They may have gathered just to have a good time and swap stories but eventually they began intensive information and technique swapping. This is THE web site to visit if you want to see state-of-the-art sign work in action.

Woodworking.com is a is another “must” website for craftsfolk who use the internet to connect to others and pick up tips on the subject of working with wood.

Significant Signs is shop run by Leonard deLaBruere and his sons Noah and Yasaf in Oak Hill, in New York’s Catskill Mountians. If you are inspired by the great outdoors you’ll also want to visit their on-line art gallery at Delabruere Art.

The History of Early American Taverns must be included to share the spotlight with our English counterparts. Information is the focus on this great site, as well as many pictures. Great research is evident on these pages.

Finger Lakes Artists & Crafters Network connects you to the large community of artists who make their home in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. My studio in Ithaca is located close to spectacular waterfalls and Cayuga Lake is a short bike ride away.

Ithaca Directory is a great source for website listings, local events, music and more.

Community Arts Partnership, the arts council for Tompkins County, was founded in response to a community-wide desire to strengthen and develop the County’s arts and cultural community.

Ithaca Freecycle Everybody has something they want to get rid of, so instead of dragging it out to the curb and filling the landfills, wouldn’t it be better to connect to someone who probably wants what you have? Freecycle is the place you can post notices about items you’d like to give away and find things that you need.

Friends Links

The Center for Symbolic Studies is dedicated to “providing a theater of opportunities for conscious mythmaking, leading to personal growth and communal awareness.” Nestled in the Shawangunk Mountains of upstate New York, CSS has sponsored workshops, lectures, seasonal festivals, ceremonies, and performances since 1992. I was an artist-in-residence at the Center during its formative years and later served as Director of Publicity.

Hrana Janto is a wonderful artist and illuminator who creates illustrations for books, calendars, and other media celebrating Art, Imagination, Creation, Mythology, and the Sacred. Her Goddess Oracle series has drawn rave reviews and is now in its fourth printing. Hrana has also done work associated with Joseph Campbell, the famous mythologist. Highly recommended!

Happy Life Productions features the artwork of Michael Dubois and other friends. A Happy Life is surely what these good folks have created. Michael and his team produce original artwork on t-shirts, cards, and more.

New Expression Graphic Design specializes in developing great-looking web sites & ad banner advertisements, logos… and much, much more. Sue Hunt is the talented artist responsible. Check this site out and enjoy.

Body Art by Shara features the magic artwork of body painting by my friend Shara Meltzer. She offers her unique talents in adornment to events, fesitivals, and many other gatherings.
